2018 drought response

Approximately 99.8% of the State is covered by one of the drought categories.

Some of the worst hit areas are the Hunter, Central Tablelands, Central West, North West and in the far West of the state.

We are continuing to help landholders manage their farming businesses during these challenging times.

Since the beginning of the year, over 7500 landholders have attended workshops, information sessions, ‘smokos’ and ‘cuppas’ to get advice on animal nutrition, pasture management and livestock health.

These events have also meant we can connect landholders with information and support from other specialists.

Our staff remain on the ground to support you. This page is your starting point to:

Current support and networks available

Visit NSW DPI’s DroughtHub to see the range of services and support available from the NSW and Australian governments.

The NSW government recently announced a support package of more than $584 million to support drought-affected farmers.

If you require assistance with drought transport subsidies, other financial assistance or are in need of, or know someone who may be in need of rural financial counselling services, please contact the Rural Assistance Authority (RAA) on 1800 678 593.

Support is also available for pest and weed control in drought-affected areas through the Local Land Services 2018–19 weed and pest animal management drought funding program.
